An Observation!

Back when I was married to my ex, I was active in the church praise team. There was one song we sang all the time out of Bethel..."I Love Your Presence". Now, you look up information on this song, and you see the copyright is owned by Mercy and dated 1999. Here is the song in question:

Now, I often sang the bridge of this song, and every time I did, I couldn't help but think it sounded familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it...until just the other night, when THIS song recorded in 1998 came on while I was stretching:

Now, I've tried searching the web, and I can only really find one other person that even addresses this...more like saying can't the writers of praise and worship music be more creative than doing a basic copy and paste out of a secular song. But here is the problem I have...

I have songwriter friends. These people work really, really hard. There are all-night writing sessions, there is helping to produce the music when it is recorded to make sure it sounds exactly as they heard it in their head, etc. It isn't as easy a job as many people may think. I know that churches have to pay a licensing fee to have the right to include these songs in services...and LOTS of churches pay from $59/year for a congregation of 1-24 to $5,000+/year for congregations of 200K+. Who is seeing this money? In this case, Mercy (and possibly Jesus Culture), and I highly doubt that David Gray is seeing a solid cent...who wrote and recorded "Babylon" that contains, as the chorus, the bridge from "I Love Your Presence"...which is even sung in the same melody. This bothers me...again, because I have friends in the business. This is theft! Plain and simple.

The kind of people I want in my life...

As my little black cat got up into my lap this morning wanting kisses on her head, I got to thinking...the kind of people I want in my life are the kind who don't have pets, but who have companions! My girl and I have a special relationship. There is nothing she can offer to me but time and affection, but I'm still ready to give her those kisses when she asks for them. I talk to her....knowing that she may or may not understand anything. The kind of person who can have this kind of a connection to an animal...one who can't give them any material things...is the kind of person who can understand the real value of relationships. Those are the kind of people I want to surround myself with!

STOP THE AHCA!!!

This is an urging to WRITE YOUR SENATORS!

The AHCA is a bad bill! It must stop in the Senate! I have loved ones who could have their coverage dropped or their rates hiked under the proposed new pre-existing condition provisions..including myself. My daughter and I shouldn't be punished for having mild asthma since birth. Neither of us have really incurred many medical bills because of it outside of when we were infants (both of us suffered regular bouts of bronchitis and pneumonia as babies...and now I only experience the once-every-5-years bout of bronchitis...which I'm sure the premiums I pay over those 5 year more than covers the treatment of), but we could see our rates increase just because of that under the new provisions! My mom is diabetic, and was treated (and cured) of uterine cancer in her 20's...she could see her rates hike or her coverage dropped under the new provisions! My dad has had recent pain issues which are being looked at as possible rheumatoid arthritis. What happens to his coverage? Must he live the rest of his life in pain if insurance or Medicare will not cover treatment? Could he afford supplemental insurance being retired? My best friend of 20+ years (woman is a sister to me) also has pain and arthritic issues...what will happen to her coverage and rates?! I have other dear friends who had breast cancer and other conditions. I can keep listing here people I love who have conditions on this list that is being proposed that insurance companies could potentially be allowed to no longer cover! This is a bad bill, people! Yes, the Affordable Care Act needed some fixing; however, one of the great things it did was make sure that people like me and my loved ones could get coverage for the treatment they needed. #IAmAPreexistingCondition
